Second Group Presentation 18.03.21

Our Second Presentation

Our presentation co-ordinators put together our second presentation to show the progress we have been making as a group in the last couple of weeks. This consisted of a brief look at what the individual groups have been working on within our practice and the introduction of our initial ideas regarding the design of the exhibition.

This week, we decided to change our presenters (to Lojain and Josh) so that different people in our group would have the opportunity to explain what we have been working on collectively. This is particularly useful if the presenters are from the specific task group that the work was focused on that week as they will be able to communicate our progress more effectively.

The presentation began with an image of our logo once again to remind everyone of the name of our practice. We chose to continue using the same layout and approach when putting together our second presentation to keep our work consistent and ensure that our work is displayed professionally.

The second page displays the work that each of the smaller teams within the group practice have been working on and how we have developed our work since our previous presentation. Lojain explains how feedback was received from each of the teams to demonstrate the progress that they have made, this allowed us to see how much work we had completed as a group and what needs to be done in the following weeks.

On the third page, some of our initial ideas were shown to give insight into the concepts we have been developing together. Josh mentions that they were mostly influenced by the Pinterest board that we all use as a group, we are able to pin any interesting images that we find for discussion in our meetings or for future reference. He goes on to talk about how most of the ideas were designed with a focus on circulation which is an important factor to consider with the social distancing rules that will need to be implemented.

Page four has an image from our previous group meeting on it, as we have been ensuring that we meet at a scheduled time every week to communicate our thoughts as a team. We can see how the overall progress is going and it gives us an opportunity to discuss any concerns or changes that need to be made. Lojain talks about how we have been able to work more successfully by splitting off into our specific task groups in break out rooms if we need to discuss anything in further detail.

The fifth page includes our CAD model, which our CAD specialist Bailey has been putting together to make it easier for the design team to assess the three-dimensional space. Josh explains that this will be particularly helpful for us as we are planning on creating an abstract exhibition design which may come down from above instead of standing on the floor.

Finally, the sixth page lists the main areas that we plan to look into moving forward. We will be working to select a final concept for the design of our exhibition, produce a summary of the steps that took place in our design process and start thinking about possible drawings and renders. Furthermore, the finance team will be looking into the final breakdown of the budget and any potential sponsorships while the research team will investigate risk assessments for the exhibition.

Feedback on This Presentation

Once we had finished presenting, we received some questions about certain parts of our design process and some considerations that we will need to make for the exhibition.

The possibility of a physical model was mentioned as we have only demonstrated working digitally in that aspect so far. We have been talking about the possibility of creating a physical model to help convey our ideas but are yet to start making it as we are waiting for the completion of the CAD model to make the process easier.

We were also asked about whether we had thought about the disturbance on the ground floor of the Eldon building where the exhibition will be held. When designing, we considered physical restraints such as the columns, stairwell and disabled lift as we have been thinking about how the circulation and accessibility of the exhibition space will need to be adapted for the appropriate social distancing measures.

As we continue developing the exhibition design, all the teams will come together to incorporate their ideas and come up with a final design.
