Working as a Team From Home

After a year of working from home due to Covid, people have arguably become used to this new way of life. Working from home gives you more time to yourself, whether that be longer in bed rather than getting public transport, having time to work out in the morning or have time to make pancakes for breakfast. Lockdown gave us all a chance to reconsider how we were living our lives, what we wanted to change and what we missed.

Our university experience completely changed. From going into a social, bustling Eldon Building weekly, to only being inside the building a handful of times this year. Many of us became unmotivated due to a lack of studio and lecture time together, we missed the time we would share our design ideas or some pages from our sketch books. However, Archi4 pulled together to ensure nobody falls behind.

To work well as a team we have created a WhatsApp group to not only communicate about our studio practice, but also to ask each other questions about the course and other modules. This has helped us become closer as we are all supporting each other. We also have one or two zoom calls a week to discuss our to do list and we even held our own CV and cover letter workshop on the 16th March to provide each other answers to any queries as best we could and give each other opinions. These ways of communicating has really aided us to work well as a team from home.

The blog team felt it was important to get other members opinions on working from home and their experience, so Emily created a short questionnaire on the google drive document. Below show the questions that are asked, the answers will follow on a later blog post.

1. What has your experience been like working from home eg. have you enjoyed working from home? What is your home work environment like?

2. What have you missed about going into university? What don’t you miss?

3. Have you felt unmotivated at any point? How did you help this?

4. How have you found working in a team over zoom? Do you enjoy it or are you finding it difficult?

5. What do you think life will return to post-covid eg. do you think we will go back to working 5 days a week, 9-5 in an office or do you think working remotely will continue?

6. What do you want life post- covid to be like? Do you want the option to work from home some days of the week?

7. Do you wish you did anything differently over lockdown eg. do you wish you used the time more wisely to learn a new skill, get into fitness etc.
