Third Group Presentation 22.04.2021

Our chosen presenters for this week’s presentation were Luke and Eléonore again. Luke began the slide show just by saying that we had not changed any of the group roles because everyone is completing the work very well and that we also had a few zoom meetings over the Easter break, just to make sure everyone was keeping up okay. He also mentioned that we had some technical issues that held some members of the group back on work.

After this, Eléonore then starts to talk a little bit about the site analysis that we undertook including access, types of surrounding buildings and environmental factors and their impacts. The presentation looked more in depth at the environmental factors of site analysis, which included ventilation and light advantages and disadvantages. Eléonore gives a few examples of these, like how too much ventilation can make the stands swing or how the lighting entering the building might affect the way the viewers see the work.

Next, Luke discusses the drawings that the group came up with for the design, describing the idea as “tree-like”. He also mentions that we thought about how the covid restrictions would affect how much space we would give people to walk around the structure and view the work. The fifth slide shows the physical model of the design we decided on and the digital model we made of the Eldon building.

The sixth slide showed the materials that we had decided on using for the design and Eléonore talks about how we picked them because of how they are local to Portsmouth, how they can be recycled after being used in terms of sustainability and additionally, how they were chosen for aesthetic purposes.

After talking about materials, Luke shows the renders that we had created of our design and then talks about the next steps for the group in response to these renders. We will be trying to see how well it displays the work and if there is anything to improve on in the design. Following on from the discussion of materials, Luke then mentions that we have also been considering the cost of everything. The presentation goes into our next steps are for the design including its construction, and that we will be doing some experimentation with the technology of the project including its technical junctions.

Eléonore finishes the presentation by showing a table our team created about the risk assessment of the project and she talks about what everything means inside the table and how it will help with the project, legally. In relation to risk assessment of the project, Eléonore discusses the fire safety research that the group had collected and how this research helped us in knowing how to lay the exhibition out without causing a fire hazard.

At the end of the slide show, Luke has a quick scroll through the website and the blog just to show the progress we had made on these sites as well.

Katie’s Feedback

Katie starts by saying that she likes the tree-like exhibition structure that we came up with for the space and that she thinks the renders show how well they fit into the Eldon building space, talking about how it could possibly work as a permanent structure. She mentions that we should talk about what the idea behind the design was.

She says that we seem to be working quite well as a group, like having our regularly scheduled group zoom meetings and how we are updating the website and blog consistently. Then to finish, she mentions that we seem to be quite a supportive group, which we can confirm, is true!
