IT Issues
In the first week of April, we all received an email that told us about an “ongoing IT issue”. Over the course of that week and in the weeks after, we received a few more emails explaining that the issue had caused the VPN and therefore Apps Anywhere and the N Drive to be unavailable to students. For context, Apps Anywhere allows us to use much of the software that is needed for our course including AutoCAD, Rhino and Adobe programs. Many of us in the group also had a lot of work, both old and new, stored on the N Drive which could only be accessed through the VPN. We were then told that the university would be closed for a few weeks while they sorted the problem out. So, for those of us that use the university computers to complete work, we struggled with doing so. Because of these issues, our group was held back on some of the tasks that we needed to complete. This included having our renders completed by the rendering team because they were not able to use Rhino. Some of us also had some of the group work stored on the N Drive which we were not able to access for a while as well.
In response to this problem, we decided to try and work on
other things that did not use the software or we tried to redistribute the work
within the group to those of us that had access to the software. Facing this
problem, we believe that we handled it quite well. We think that in a real-life situation like this, we would be able to solve this problem so that clients
would not be kept waiting for what that paid for and we would still be able to present
ourselves professionally.
